Published in 1990, The Presbyterian Hymnal is the official hymnbook of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). The Presbyterian Hymnal contains more than 600 hymns, psalms and spiritual songs that express a full range of biblical images for the Persons of the Trinity and that embrace the diversity of historical traditions while providing a prophetic vision for the future. Much of the music in the hymnal relate to the Reformed doctrines, the lectionary, the seasons of the church year, sacraments, ordinances and the ministry and mission of the church. More than 2,000,000 copies of the hymnal have been sold since its publication.
