The Heidelberg Catechism, Participant's Book

Written by Gary Neal Hansen

The Heidelberg Catechism helps adult and young adult participants understand the new translation of the catechism that is being considered for the PC(USA)'s Book of Confessions. This study provides an in-depth look at the catechism; clarifying challenging issues that surround the current translation in the Book of Confessions and deciphering its concepts for today's Christians. It invites participants to know the creed more fully from an understandable yet theological perspective.

Being Reformed: Faith Seeking Understanding is a series of biblically based mini-courses that provides adults with a foundational understanding of the Reformed faith. Each six-session study—written by well-known and respected scholars—features Scripture, prayer, in-depth commentary, and questions for reflection. Each study addresses its subject from a Reformed theological perspective.

Lessons are enhanced through the Leader’s Guide, which offers helpful suggestions and direction for group study. The main structure for these guides is the rubric Head, Heart, and Hands.

Gary Neal Hansen is associate professor of church history at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. He is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and is a graduate of Washington State University and Princeton Theological Seminary. He has been a pastor and has taught at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary since 1999. He served on the PC(USA) Special Committee on Correcting Translation Problems of the Heidelberg Catechism and is the author of Kneeling with Giants: Learning to Pray with History's Best Teachers.
